The working principle of the nut is to use the friction between the nut and the bolt to lock itself. However, the reliability of this self-locking decreases under dynamic loads. In some important occasions, we will take some anti-loose measures to ensure the reliability of the nut lock. Locking nut is one of the anti-loose measures.
A lock nut or lock nut is a special type of fastener designed for safe fixing. Some suppliers call them self-locking nuts or rigid nuts. They are screwed on the bolt or screw like a standard nut, but the lock nut will resist loosening under the action of torque or vibration force.

A two-piece lock nut assembly for securing a shroud to a head assembly of a cone crusher. The two-piece lock nut assembly includes an inner nut and an outer nut. The inner nut includes a set of axial bores, each of which receives a jack screw. Once the lock nut assembly is in place on the head assembly, a series of jack screws are tightened to apply a force on the outer sleeve that is counteracted by the force passing through the inner nut and into the head, thereby creating a locking force between the lock nut assembly and the head assembly. The outer nut is rotated along the inner nut to secure the lock nut assembly in place. Once the outer nut is moved into position, the jack screw is removed such that the outer nut continues to apply a locking force between the housing and the head through the lock nut assembly.
